Coronavirus Update for Criminal Cases in Orange, Seminole & Osceola County
I hope everyone is staying well out there. Our office is still open, but due to the stay at home order currently in place, our criminal courts in Central Florida are mostly closed until May 29, 2020. Ninety-nine percent (99%) of all court dates for criminal cases have been reset, or will soon be reset once the clerk figures out how much longer this pandemic is going to last.
Your attorney can still get you into court during this shut down because Orange County, Seminole County, and Osceola County are permitting some hearings to move forward, under certain circumstances. For example, you can get hearing time before May 29th if you have a plea worked out on a case, or if you need an “essential hearing,” like a bond hearing (unfortunately, a bond hearing on a VOP is not considered essential). In this video, we’ll review what’s happening in our local criminal courts. And, due to the nature of things, it probably goes without saying that all of this could change at any moment, so please call an attorney for up to the minute guidance.
