Oviedo
Oviedo Florida, located in Seminole county, was originally a small town with 800 residents when it was first incorporated in 1925. One of the cities early settlers, Swedish immigrant Andrew Olin was given the task of naming the areas post office. He chose the name Oviedo, also the name of a city in Northern Spain, to pay tribute to the Spanish heritage of Florida. The post office name was later adopted as the official name for the city. Prior to the arrival of the mostly Swedish settlers, a small Seminole Indian clan known as the Timucua inhabited the area. Modern day Oviedo is now home to over 30,000 residents. Oviedo’s population has exploded in recent years. It’s close proximity to the campus of the University of Central Florida, so there’s plenty of access to restaurants, entertainment, sports, you name it. Oviedo Florida hosts many annual events such as the Taste of Oviedo, Whale of a Sale, and Great Day in the Country, and Oktoberfest.
