Driving While License Suspended
Driving while license suspended is one of the most common crimes in Florida. I know that you probably think possession of cannabis is the most common crime, or shoplifting, but in fact, it is driving while license suspended. They hand these criminal cases out like candy.
Some people get arrested, some people get the little citation arrest. Either way, you’re going to court. You could go to jail for 60 days or get six months probation. You could go to jail for a year and get a year of probation. Or, some of them are a felony and you can get five years prison. There are all sorts of varieties of driving while license suspended and they snowball. They just get more and more serious so you want to attack this absolutely as quickly as you can.
Driving while license suspended in Florida doesn’t have to be a crime. If you didn’t have knowledge that your license was suspended, then, its not a crime.
Driving while license suspended isn’t that big of a deal, is it?
We have a judge here in Central Florida and she will give everybody with this crime 30 days jail. I mean, it is unbelievable. People walk into court on a driving while license suspended and they think “this is no big deal”. “I don’t need an attorney, I’m going to go plea to this”. And they, literally, don’t walk out of the place. They have handcuffs, DCF has to take their kids from the hallway. It becomes a big mess.
Here’s what you need to do when you get a driving while license suspended. I recommend you go and get a copy of your driving record. Next, take that driving record to somebody like me. I will go over that thing with a fine tooth comb. And, we will see what we can fix because the key to this operation is going to be (1) can we get your license back? Or (2) was the suspension even valid?
